HIPAA Police

There is some decent info in there, but good luck finding it. Their info is often written for multiple perspectives - hospitals, insurers, clearinghouses, patients, etc. Further confusing because several government agencies & organizations provide HIPAA info. You might start on HHS and be directed to CMS, NIST, or something called Medscape which is a part of WebMD.

Hipaalogo2

World Privacy Forum

Great source of plain-spoken info! Note that it is written from the patient's perspective. Site navigation is a little weird but their writing is sprinkled with a sense humor :-0

Ahima-logo

The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)

Another great source of HIPAA info. Also hard to navigate their website and various channels. A Google search with the word 'HIPAA' often leads to the AHIMA site. This article on limiting disclosures is insightful but hard'ish to find. Speaking from experience, computer nerds are often lousy at user interface design. Their Patient Bill of Rights is tight.

HIPAA Hall of Fame Confusion

Those jackwagon politicans made these HIPAA laws so complicated that you end up with some really muddled attempts to make sense of it all. As we researched our book, we came across some really confusing info. As hard as they tried, they just couldn't get their minds around these onerous goverment regulations. They are so bad, they are funny. Here are some of our favorites. Tweet us at #NotHipaaReady if you know of some crazy HIPAA documentation that belongs in our Hall of Confusion?

Hipaa_access_flow_chart

A "Quick Reference Guide" From Our Home State NY

Love that they called it a quick reference! Good thing they added that second page of footnotes - cleared up all our questions. Medical marajuana and cannabis are still not legal in New York, but somebody was smoking somthing funky when they created this PDF on Patient Rights... well we think it is on Patient Rights. To understand it, you must be smoking some maryjane. original link
